Local advocates host protest honoring 50th anniversary of Roe Vs. Wade

SALISBURY, Md.- Rainy weather didn’t stop advocates from celebrating what would’ve been the 50th anniversary of Roe Vs. Wade in Salisbury Sunday.

The Democratic Women’s Club of Worcester County and Indivisible Worcester were in the streets of Salisbury as they hosted a Honk & Wave event.

Protestors were holding many signs with bold messages all in favor of reproductive rights.

On January 22, 1973, the supreme court ruled in favor of women’s right to an abortion.  That decision was overturned just seven months ago.

Advocates say just because they feel they were set back doesn’t mean their fight is over. “It’s really important to be sisters. It’s really important to protect all of our rights. Younger people might not have the money, transportation, time, or equity to make all the decision that they need to,” Co-President of Worcester County DWC Debra Fisher-Reynolds said.

“Women my age have always taken for granted that it is history and that safe doctoring and choice have always been important.”

Advocates tell us they wanted to emphasize the importance of health care equity and reproductive rights.

The local protest was just one of many national protests and marches seen over the weekend.
