‘It’s very community oriented:’ Local brewery hosts chili cook-off supporting Delmar High School’s baseball team

DELMAR, Del. – In Delmar, the power of chili brought the community of Delmar together all in support of the Delmar High School baseball team.

Loakal Branch Brewing Company hosted a chili cook off event Saturday.

With a $5 dollar donation, attendees got the chance to try over 11 chilis and vote on the tastiest one.

There were also raffle baskets and other prizes to bid on with all proceeds going directly to those young athletes.

Head Coach Jordan Johnson tells us those donations whether big or small will go a long way.  ‘All of my yearly budget that I’m allotted is not even enough to cover our game balls for our middle school, JV, and varsity teams. So that right there goes to say we’re kind of behind the 8 ball each year if we don’t try to stay ahead of it,” Jordan said.

“Local people that want to support anything that’s going on here whether it’s the school or a local business. We’re taking advantage of that today. That’s Delmar! That’s just how it is. It’s very community oriented.”

Thanks to the community’s overwhelming support, the event sold out of chili before it ended.

Loakal Branch Brewing also donated 50% of tips earned during the event to the baseball team.
