Dover man arrested following firearms investigation
DOVER, Del. – Dover Police arrested a man earlier this week after investigating several firearms complaints.
Just before 9:30 p.m., police received a report of a man with a beard carrying a firearm while walking around the 100 block of North Halsey Road, attempting to locate someone. When officers responded to the area, they were notified that the suspect left in a gold Honda with dark tinted windows.
Approximately two hours later, police received another report of the same suspect in the gold Honda shooting a gun out of the vehicle in the 100 block of North Halsey Road. When officers responded to the area, they found the vehicle pulling into a driveway and conducted a traffic stop.
On contact with the occupants of the vehicle, including the front right passenger, identified as 30-year-old Luis Nieves, officers noticed signs that he was impaired by alcohol. During a search of the vehicle, officers found a black Glock 19 9mm handgun concealed under the front passenger seat, along with several alcohol bottles in the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that Nieves was the suspect from the earlier complaints and was intoxicated. It was determined that the driver and second passenger were not involved in the incident or the firearm.
Nieves was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, disorderly conduct, and Dover City ordinance for discharging a firearm within the city. He was held at SCI on a $23,601 cash bail.
