5k Hot Chocolate Run returns, local non-profit fundraising for permanent home
SALISBURY, Md.- Runners zipped through Salisbury City Park for the 5k Hot Chocolate Run Sunday.
The run benefits the non-profit Mind’s in Motion Children’s Museum. The non-profit’s mission is to provide local children a place to discover and explore various disciplines with a hands-on approach.
Nearly 200 runners participated. As their reward, they had access to a full hot chocolate bar courtesy of Dunkin Donuts.
Organizers tells us money raised will go to support their fundraising efforts for their own facility, as they’ve been using spaces from community partners like CROWN Sports Center.
We’re told finding a permanent home will allow them to grow their footprint in the community. “Our best memory of learning is when we were able to be hands on, not just reading from a book or watching a video. Of course, all of that is helpful but being able to implement the learning while you’re playing,” Mind’s in Motion’s Jamie Kriger said.
“Some fun art, hands-on challenges. We’ve seen museums with art and lots of engineering components that kids might not be able to have access to in a school environment with so many people in the classroom.”
Organizers say they’re grateful for all the community partners who made the day possible.
The non-profit tells us exposing children earlier to different industries like STEM can help bolster the pipeline of future professionals.
