Washington holds off Pocomoke rally for 1A upset

POCOMOKE, Md. – Washington came away with a hard-fought road victory at Pocomoke Monday night, 71-59. An all-around team effort got the job done with five Jaguars reaching double figures in scoring.

A stifling defense by the Jags in the second quarter held the Warriors to three baskets. Washington was in full control heading into the locker room ahead by a dozen.

Ke’Andre Nixon kicked it up a notch in the third quarter, draining two triples, part of his 11 points in the quarter. The deficit was cut to nine heading to the fourth.

Pocomoke would cut the lead to just two midway through the final period, but turnovers and missed opportunities allowed Washington to regain control.

Gavin McIntyre led Washington with 15, Jalen Wigfall and Zaymir Harris finished with 13, Unique Drummond (12) and Elijah Thomas (11) also made it to double digits.

Nixon led Pocomoke with 24 points.
