Fire heavily damages Cambridge home
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – A Cambridge home was heavily damaged in a fire Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to 34 Algonquin Road just after 3 p.m. for a reported house fire. The two-alarm blaze was placed under control in approximately 45 minutes.
Maryland State Fire Marshals were called to investigate the blaze, determining that the plastic container used to store used ash from the wood stove was ignited by hot embers, which then spread to a nearby wooden fence. Because the fence was in close proximity to the home, the fire quickly spread to the house.
Two of the family’s dogs perished in the fire, and we’re told one was unaccounted for. Total damage has been estimated at $300,000.
State Fire Marshals are reminding citizens to not use paper bags plastic containers, or cardboard boxes to store ash from a wood stove or fireplace.
