Bridgeville crash claims life of one, injures another

12/7 UPDATE: Police have identified the victim in this crash as 83-year-old Richard Kalinevitch.

BRIDGEVILLE, Del. – Delaware State Police say a Greenwood man was killed in a crash Monday afternoon in the Bridgeville area.

According to police, the crash happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. Investigation revealed that a gray 2010 Ford Focus was traveling northbound on Wesley Church Road, approaching the intersection with Cannon Road. At the same time, a white 2014 Dodge Charger was traveling eastbound on Cannon Road, approaching the same intersection. Police say there is a posted stop sign and flashing red traffic light for northbound traffic on Wesley Church Road at this intersection, but traffic on Cannon Road does not have to stop. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Focus reportedly did not stop and proceeded through the intersection, into the path of the Charger. As a result, the Charger collided with the Focus, and both vehicles were pushed off the roadway.

The driver of the Focus, an 83-year-old Greenwood man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Charger, a 26-year-old Bridgeville man, was taken to an area hospital by ambulance, where he was treated for injuries and later released.

The intersection was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
