GEORGETOWN, Del. – Sussex County is kicking off its food drive for the 39th annual Caroling on the Circle Campaign. The purpose is to build community support, fundraise, and collect canned goods and perishable food items.

Organizers tell us, that mission has grown into a large beloved event for the entire county. So Monday, December 5th at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Georgetown, schools, businesses, and civic organizations will turn out to sing Christmas carols and collect canned goods for area pantries, churches, and food banks in the efforts to support hungry families throughout the county.

“I think it’s fair to say this year may be a little more pressing, and a little more acute for some households and that makes what we do here with caroling on the circle and the food collection that continues through December. I think it makes it that much more important, that much more critical,” says Chip Guy, Communications Director for Sussex County Government. He adds, “You look for those traditions you look for that sense of place and family and belonging and I think that’s especially what caroling represents for a lot of people. it’s tradition, it’s something can join with their friends and their family and their friends and their neighbors every year and we’re happy to have it back this year.”

They will be collecting canned foods through December, and you can visit sussexcountyd.gov for more information.
