“This is model railroading, not just toy trains:” Train open house rolls in for holiday season
DELMAR, Del. – The Delmarva Model Railroad Club hosted its first open house event of the holiday season this weekend.
Community members of all ages gazed into over 8,000 sq. ft of train layouts.
These open houses typically run from November through early January, but we’re told work is done year-round to keep the production rolling.
The group has been promoting model railroading for nearly four decades, educating the community on the various scales and gages they use.
The group tells us the event is now a family tradition, but that tradition can only stay alive through donations. “It takes dollars to do that, and the open houses are what provide those dollars for us to continue. So whatever donations are given, it goes into the layout and next year there’s something new to see,” Open House Coordinator Linda Long said.
“This is model railroading, not just toy trains. So, you get people in like that who see this and say ‘Wow this is a whole new area to explore.'”
If you missed the open house this weekend, there’s still more opportunities to visit later in the season.
The open houses are free for all.
