Police investigating fatal Smyrna crash

SMYRNA, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that killed one person Tuesday afternoon in Smyrna.

We’re told at around 2:15 p.m., a 2002 Ford Ranger was traveling northbound on Route 13, approaching Twin Willows Road. As the vehicle proceeded northbound, it reportedly began drifting off the east edge of the roadway, veering off the road and hitting a tree. After impact, the vehicle rotated clockwise and slid a short distance before flipping.

The 59-year-old driver from Dover was pronounced dead at the scene. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.

The 22-year-old passenger was flown to an area hospital for medical treatment.

Route 13 northbound was closed for roughly three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
