Local professor appointed Maryland Education Policy Chair

MARYLAND – One UMES professor will soon have a new title.

He was recently appointed by Governor Elect Wes Moore, as Chair of Education Policy for the State of Maryland.

We sat down with UMES Hazel Professor of Education Dr. Richard Warren who was also the 2019 Maryland Teacher of the Year.

Warren is also a speaker and author of the Teacher Affirmation Book.

He tells us he’s truly honored by Moore’s appointment, crediting his work with school leaders and teachers statewide for being selected.

He says the state of education in Maryland is a work in progress but work he’s ready to get started on. “My goal is to really have an inclusive strategy and that’s Wes’ whole idea is that no one is left behind,” Dr. Warren said.

“I hear, I see, and I know the triumphs and the challenges that educators face. I think that I would be a great advocate to make sure our teachers are supported and that when they are supported students will benefit as well.”

Warren also tells us he’s thankful to have been chosen for the role and looks forward to working with Moore’s team.
