1280 Pittsville House Fire

PITTSVILLE, Md. – A house fire sent an elderly Pittsville man to the hospital Thursday morning.

The fire was reported by a neighbor at around 10:25 a.m. at 35080 Old Ocean City Road. Firefighters responded to the scene and were able to control the blaze in roughly 45 minutes.

Neighbors and passing motorists were able to help the 102-year-old male occupant out of the burning home. He was taken to TidalHealth in Salisbury for treatment of burns sustained in the fire.

State fire marshals say the fire began on the front porch of the home and was caused by a pellet stove chimney being too close to combustible furniture on the porch. Total damage has been estimated at $80,000.
