GMD: Gavin Hades, young guitarist advances in his career

DELMARVA – A year ago, 47 ABC met a young guitarist whose talent reached new heights. What started as a hobby has ‘riffed’ into star-quality ability, and allowed this young teen to play on stages with some of the most popular bands in the world of rock and roll.

Gavin Hades is 15 years old, and with only four years of experience, he’s already setting the guitar world on fire. “I’ve been living the dream some would say, just basically everything I’ve wanted to do my whole life with music is kind of all happening right now,” says Hades.

Hades tells us, he’s only been playing since he was 11 years old. His dad’s guitar lesson’s sparked a talent, and a passion he would have never predicted. “What motivates me is being the best, I’ve always been kind of driven to push myself more than the average person because I don’t know, it’s just how my brain is wired,” he says.

Hades has played with Brett Michaels, Steel Panther, and Jared James Nichols, just to name a few. A few weeks ago, he was asked to play the national anthem at the Ocean City bike fest, which led him to a huge move in his career. He was given the chance to open down in Panama City Beach, Florida at the Thunder Beach Motorcycle rally. We asked how he felt about being given that kind of opportunity, at 15 years old, Hades says “I can’t put it into words, my favorite band ever ShineDown was there, I actually got to meet the drummer and the bass player and that was just a surreal moment for me.”

Hades even played on the same stage as bands like Three Doors Down, and the love and support he’s getting is what continues to drive him. He tells 47 ABC, “Having people come up to me and say that they love watching me because that’s all I ever wanted to do is make people proud and have them enjoy what I do.”

We’re also told outside of his friends and family, Hades is largely inspired by the late and great Eddie Van Halen, who he says he only hopes to be as influential as. “I want to be what he was to me when I first started out playing guitar a guy that seems untouchable in the guitar universe and many people’s lives, I want to be like that.”

When asked  if he believes he’s an inspiration to other young musicians, he says, “I’d like to hope so.” Hades adds, “I don’t think I’m really at that level yet, but I’d like that a few of my younger friends and my uncle’s kids and some of my younger cousins, I’d like to think they look up to me in that sort of capacity.”

Thunder Beach Motorcycle rally brings over 60,000 motorcyclists to Florida, so Hades’ guitar skills were truly heard by many.

We’re also told he has big plans in the works, but for now, he’s just excited to be back on the shore doing what he loves. You can check out Gavin Hades on Facebook, or visit his website.
