Experts say routine maintenance is key to keeping your home warm this winter

DELMARVA – Colder weather is now upon us, which means you probably want to keep your home warm and comfy.

To do that, experts say keeping up routine maintenance on your HVAC system is key.

One Hour Heating & Air/Ben Franklin’s Plumbing in Berlin recommends having your filter checked on a monthly basis. They say you should either clean them out or have them completely replaced if needed.

We’re told that keeping your unit up to date also means that you could see some major savings on your monthly energy costs. “On average, you could be saving upwards of $40 to $50 a month depending on what you have as a heating system, how many units you have within the home, and how big your home is,” Operations Manager Kyle Wilson said.

“If we’re looking at breakdowns, we’re going to give you those options while we’re on site to say, ‘hey listen this is starting to get weak which is causing your electric bill to spike.’ It could cause a breakdown within the near future.”

Wilson also tells 47ABC those maintenance checks are even more important for homeowners with furnace systems to avoid carbon monoxide being released in the home.
