Emergency Rental Assistance Program applications to reopen in Wicomico County

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md.- In Wicomico County, applications for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) will soon reopen.

The program closed back in October with 500 applications still open and agencies needed to evaluate if funds were available to process them.

We’re told that backlog has been cleared and funds do remain to fulfill the growing need for help paying rent.

There is currently no permanent rental assistance program on the lower shore, which is why the program’s administrator Jesse Drewer says those eligible should act sooner rather than later.

“With the cold weather approaching us, utility and rental assistance has continued to grow. We’re hoping that with these remaining funds that we have, which are a little over $1 million, that we’ll at least be able to stretch through the colder weather months,” Drewer said.

Only two agencies will accept applications now which are Shore Up! Inc. and Salisbury Neighborhood Housing Services.

If you’ve previously applied with Habitat for Humanity, you’re still eligible. We’re told you will have to visit one of the locations accepting applications.

Those applications reopen next Monday, December 5th.
