Wicomico Humane Society hosts annual Autumn festival, shelter still experiencing overcrowding

SALISBURY, Md.- The Humane Society of Wicomico County’s annual Autumn Bazaar & Market returned Sunday, allowing community members to shop while learning more about what the shelter offers.

The event included several local vendors and a flea market.

Staff were on site providing more information about the shelter and their outreach efforts.

Many adoptable cats and dogs were looking for a forever home, as the shelter is still at full capacity.

Pet surrenders continue to increase, and space is becoming more limited at the shelter.

The humane society hopes events like this create lasting bonds for pets and their future owners. “We want to make sure it is the best fit for that person and the animal, set them both up for success. Cut down on that boomerang effect of people taking dogs and bringing them right back,” Volunteer Jeff Beach said.

“Shelter dogs to me in my opinion are the greatest dogs. They will teach you patience, kindness, love, and compassion quicker than a readymade dog.”

If you aren’t in a position to adopt, there’s always the option to foster or even volunteer at the shelter.

The Humane Society updates their available pets daily.
