LAUREL, Del. – The Laurel-Seaford game scheduled for tonight, October 28th, will be closed to the public.

The school district released a statement, saying “Due to credible intelligence from law enforcement that was shared with the Laurel School District earlier today, out of an abundance of caution, the decision has been made to close tonight’s game to the general public.”

We’re told only the documented parents or guardians of Laurel football players will be granted access into Laurel Stadium for the game. Two parents or guardians of each football player with Laurel will be allowed into the game.

Only Seaford’s football players and its coaching staff will be allowed into the game. If you are not a Laurel parent or guardian who is granted access into Laurel Stadium, you will not be allowed on the LMHS campus. Officers will be on site to enforce this.

“We retreat that this action had to be taken for such a highly anticipated game, however, the safety of our students and community members remains our utmost priority, and the significantly reduced crowd will serve officers and administrators in ensuring this priority is achieved,” school officials said.

47 ABC has spoken to the Mayor of Laurel who told us that he was not aware of what the specific threat is at this time. We have reached out to both Laurel Police and Delaware State Police for more information and will be sure to update this article as more information becomes available. We have been told that there will be an increased presence by Delaware State Police at the game.
