“”It’s bittersweet:” Local skating rink for sale as owner announces retirement, hopes to keep family legacy alive

LAUREL, Del.- A local staple in the community for over four decades will soon have new management.

42 years ago, Debbie Slatcher and her husband turned an empty building into what’s now known as ‘Skateworld’.

Her husband passed away last year and Slatcher says it was time for her to retire, as her 70th birthday is approaching soon.

She’s now looking to sell the business and hopes that the next owner will keep the passion for roller skating alive.

Slatcher shared with us some her fondest memories from over the years. “It’s bittersweet. I love the business. I have a passion for roller skating,” Slatcher said.

“The people, the community, the skaters that come in. Now, kids come in that were teenagers when I opened up are now bringing their great grandchildren in.”

Slatcher thanks all those who’ve supported her as a business owner throughout the years.

She adds there’s currently four interested parties looking to take over the business.
