How to Handle Seasonal Allergies

Delmarva — As Fall gets into full swing so do Seasonal Allergies.

47 ABC Spoke with G.W. Smith a Physician Assistant at Atlantic General Hospital to find out why that is and how to best avoid feeling sick when allergy season comes around.
Smith told us the change in weather patterns and plant shedding can affect those who have bad allergies.
He says it’s no surprise many are feeling the effects of allergies and had the following advice for people to cope with the symptoms…

“Monitor home HVAC systems as you go through seasons and change your filters every three months, Make sure they’re high hypoallergenic filters if you’re someone very sensitive to allergies.”
He also said, “take over-the-counter medications to the best of your ability and obviously if you’re not getting relief follow up with your local provider and see if they can give you something prescribed or some advice on how to proceed.”

Smith also said during this time of year people may get symptoms and think it could be the flu or covid so use these precautions, but if they get worse be sure to see your primary care doctor.
