DSP investigating fatal motorcycle crash in Smyrna

Capture 16

SMYRNA, Del. – Two people have died following a motorcycle crash in the Smyrna area Sunday evening.

At around 7:15 p.m., police say a black 2010 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling northbound on Dupont Parkway, north of Paddock Road, approaching the Smyrna Rest area. For unknown reasons, the operator lost control of the motorcycle and began sliding on its side. The motorcycle was then hit by another unknown vehicle, causing the motorcycle to be redirected towards the rest area entrance, where it came to rest in the right northbound lane of Dupont Parkway. The second vehicle then reportedly fled the scene.

Both the operator of the motorcycle and passenger, identified as 53-year-old Charles Green and 53-year-old Michele Baxendale, both of Wilmington, were taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Both victims were later pronounced dead. The driver, make and model of the second vehicle remain unidentified at this time.

Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this crash to contact Sergeant J. Jefferson at 302-365-8484 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
