Del. State Treasurer Colleen Davis discusses re-election bid

DOVER, Del. – Delaware State Treasurer Colleen Davis is running for re-election.

Davis tells 47 ABC that she’s hopeful voters will re-elect her for a second term to continue the work that she’s done the past four years in office.

“I’m someone whose had the heart of a servant,” Davis explained. “I continue to, as I said, not only focus on ensuring that we are very strong financially. We closed the books this year on, as I said, surplus.”

Treasurer Davis was elected back in 2018 to her first term in office. As a consultant for major hospital systems, she tells us that if she’s re-elected she plans on placing an increased emphasis on ways to address high costs when it comes to healthcare in Delaware.

“I do look forward to helping our state really hone in on some of our costs that continue to balloon when it comes to healthcare,” Davis said. “Being a little more innovative and dynamic in the ways that we achieve that.”

In 2021, Treasurer Davis developed and proposed a plan to secure dignity in retirement for all Delaware workers, called Delaware EARNS, a program designed to increase retirement access for private-sector employees. During her term, she also sent thousands of payments to unemployed workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Davis will face off against Republican Greg Coverdale in the General Election scheduled for November 8, 2022.
