Shoplifting incident leads to fiery crash in Milton, three arrested
MILTON, Del. – Three men are behind bars after a shoplifting incident led to a fiery crash Sunday morning.
At around 11:30 a.m., troopers were called to respond to the Lowes at 20364 Plantation Road in Lewes for a reported shoplifting. Two men were reportedly seen leaving the store with a large amount of stolen copper wire before getting into a Chrysler 300 with Florida registration, driven by a third male suspect, and fleeing the scene north on Coastal Highway.
Troopers observed the vehicle on Coastal Highway and tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle made a U-turn and began traveling southbound on Coastal Highway at a high rate of speed. Troopers initiated a pursuit after the vehicle failed to stop, however, for the safety of the public and law enforcement, the pursuit was discontinued. A short time later, troopers learned that the vehicle had crashed into a guardrail on Coastal Highway, just south of Milton-Ellendale Highway, and caught on fire. The three suspects were seen running away from the crash scene, but were quickly taken into custody near the Broadkill River.
Further investigation later revealed that a Honda Accord, driven by a 34-year-old Frederica man, was traveling southbound in the left lane of Coastal Highway when the Chrysler’s front bumper hit the rear bumper of the Honda. The Chrysler then lost control and crashed into the guardrail. A piece of the guardrail then reportedly impaled the windshield of a Ford Explorer traveling northbound on Coastal Highway. Neither the driver of the Ford nor the Honda were injured in the incident. The three suspects sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were treated and released.
The three suspects, identified as 18-year-old Alexander Boysie, 19-year-old Justin Ramsaran, and 20-year-old Ronnie Bridgelal, all of New York, were arrested as a result of the incident.
Boysie was charged with felony shoplifting, criminal mischief over $1000, second degree conspiracy, resisting arrest, and wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony. He was held at SCI on an $8,500 cash bail.
