Pair arrested on drug, weapons charges following pursuit
MILTON, Del. – Two people are behind bars after police say they fled from an attempted traffic stop early Thursday morning.
Just before 1:30 a.m., a trooper on patrol in the Milton area observed a silver 2021 Nissan Altima traveling at a high rate of speed on southbound Coastal Highway, north of Cave Neck Road. The trooper reportedly tried to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver ignored the trooper’s emergency equipment and accelerated away on southbound Coastal Highway. Another trooper in the Lewes area was able to successfully deploy stop sticks to disable the Altima, which eventually came to a stop in the area of the Crab House restaurant in Rehoboth Beach.
The driver and passenger of the vehicle, identified as 27-year-old Sarah Campbell and 29-year-old Davonta Brown, were taken into custody, and a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 140.15 grams of marijuana, approximately 0.56 grams of suspected heroin, a prescription pill, various items of drug paraphernalia, and a handgun with an obliterated serial number. Computer checks of Brown revealed that he was a convicted felon prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Campbell was held at SCI on a $43,000 cash bond on a list of drug, weapons, and traffic offenses. Brown was held on a $60,750 cash bond on numerous drug and weapons charges.
