MARYLAND – After a year of Maryland’s Boys & Girls club implementing their ‘Project Bounce Back’ initiative, they have some exciting results being reported. Project Bounce Back, which was announced last year, provided funding to help Maryland youth recover from the effects of the pandemic.

According to the Boys & Girls Club of Maryland, more than 16,000 children participated in boys and girls club programs over the past year, which is a 47% increase. In addition, more than 11,600 children were given meals, laptops, and other supplies to help with family stability.

Y’landa Burch, Chief Strategy Officer with BGC tells 47 ABC, that the project allowed them to implement mentorship programs, expand youth development, address learning loss, loss of social skills, and much more.

Burch says it’s the organization’s perseverance that has allowed them to give youth a better future. “Wanting to make sure they are successful and being successful is not just pigeon hold to academics, it’s making sure they’re successful in being able to express themselves and their feelings,” says Burch. She adds, ” Now it’s just really leaning into that and being even more intentional. If can we just share that in every county in Maryland and touch as many young people as we possibly can in the state of Maryland, every student, the impact and the difference we will be able to make.”

Burch also tells us, that BGCM is hopeful this project continues in the efforts to help grow the organization and implement more clubs throughout Maryland, especially in under-served areas.
