Local agriculture expert weighs in on cooler temperatures, impact on growers

DELMARVA-While Friday we experienced cooler temperatures, one agriculture expert said it won’t impact growers too much.

Haley Sater, Wicomico County Agriculture Agent for the University of Maryland, said temperatures won’t have a huge impact on most garden plants or some fall crops. The lowest temperatures she’s seeing is around 45 degrees, which is not cold enough to make any major changes.

“This cold snap is not going to do any harm to those plants, your more sensitive garden plants, say like basil or some of the more tropical plants, they’re going to start to suffer and you’re going to start noticing injury when it starts to get cooler than 40 or 38 degrees,” Sater said.

We’re told days like Friday where there is low humidity is good for drying down crops and harvesting corn.
