“Just praying she’s okay:” 5-year-old Delaware girl battling cancer, community rallying together to support family

LAUREL, Del.- Zyairah Frisby-Winder was just your normal 5-year-old kid who loves the outdoors and a good peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

As she prepared to start kindergarten that journey was interrupted as she started to complain about stomach pains.

“I went to go look at her stomach and there was a big knot in her stomach. I went to feel it and it was hard as a rock,” Mother Beverly Frisby said.

“And then just out of no where it just all fell apart.”

Beverly Frisby rushed her daughter to the ER, where doctors found a tumor had ruptured on her right ovary.

That tumor along with her ovary, fallopian tube, and appendix where removed during an emergency surgery. “Then when we got there they were able to remove the entire tumor but it came back as cancerous. They found two cancer components. She has to be treated for two separate cancers,” Frisby said.

One of those was a yolk sac tumor and we’re told the other is still be tested.

Although surgery was successful, brave Zyairah still has a long road to recovery.

Her family isn’t alone community members are lending a help hand with the start of a GoFundMe and a Facebook support group. “Cause they know that its been hard and I’m a single mother. They have been amazing,” Frisby said.

Through it all, her mother describes her as Bubbly, free-spirited, and loving.

Now, she and Zyairah’s three siblings hope for a speedy recovery for their fearless soul and await her return home. “She still doesn’t understand why she’s in the hospital because she feels okay, like she doesn’t feel sick. She’s still questioning why is she there.”

“Just praying she’s okay and will be able to come home soon. Really soon because she’s sick of that hospital.”

The community has stepped up in a big way, as that GoFundMe has now raised more than half of its goal of $5,000.

The money donated has also helped to pay two months of rent and an electricity bill for the family.

There will also be a raffle on that Facebook Page with many giveaways and a grand prize of a cooler.
