Humane Society of Wicomico County now full to capacity, seeking forever homes for fur babies
SALISBURY, Md. – A lack of space continues to cause concern at the Humane Society of Wicomico County.
Now, the non-profit is sending out an urgent call to the community to consider adopting a four-legged friend.
The shelter tells 47 ABC they’ve been at full capacity for nearly a year. We’re told they don’t have the option of turning any animal away, as it’s a requirement for their county funding.
Due to the overwhelming amount of dogs they have now, they had to consider putting some to sleep which is their last resort. That’s why they say they’re tirelessly looking for those fur babies a forever home.
“We never want to make the decision to euthanize. Up until now, we’ve only ever euthanized for aggression that makes a dog unsafe to adopt out into a home and illness or injury we are unable to treat,” Executive Director Kimberly Nock said.
“You gotta come out and meet them. Don’t try and pick from looking at a picture on Facebook. We’re here to help you.”
The shelter took to social media this past weekend for help and got a strong response.
At least 10 dogs have gone out since then and many others have applications on file.
