Cambridge Police Department to host first annual ‘Clean Up Day’ event, push to curb gun violence

CAMBRIDGE, Md.- Due to growing concerns of violence plaguing the community, the Cambridge Police Department has a potential solution. They’re hosting it’s 1st annual Clean Up Day.

The goal is to strengthen relationships between the community and law enforcement.

The event will also incorporate “Love Is the Answer Day,”  which is nationally held in September.

Pine Street is the focus area of the clean up where many shootings and assaults have been reported.

Police Chief Justin Todd tells 47ABC, he hopes this event will be the turning point to curb gun violence. “We want to get out and show the residents of that community that we’re their with them and that we’re going to stand beside them. We’re going to do whatever it takes to help curb gun violence and all crime whether it be drug related or gang related within them streets,” Chief Todd said.

“We want all of our officers to know the community their working in and we want the community to know that we are out there for them. Their safety is our priority.”

The clean up will be held this Saturday, September 24th on the 900 block of Pine Street at 9 a.m.

Lunch will be provided by the police department.

“L.O.V.E. is the Answer Day” will also feature local artist Miriam Moran who will help with the creation of a Chalk Street Mural.
