Thunderstorms expected Tuesday evening, heavy rain and severe weather possible
Scattered thunderstorms are expected to arrive Tuesday evening ahead of a cold front, bringing some much needed rain to parts of Delmarva. However, like recent events the coverage will be hit or miss. A line of storms will approach Delmarva from the west closer to sunset and these areas will have the highest chance for severe weather. Isolated damaging wind gusts will be possible as well as torrential rain.
Drought conditions persist in Sussex county with much of eastern and southern Delmarva now transitioning to near-drought level conditions. And although the rain is needed, the excessively dry ground will increase the chance for flooding within heavier downpours.
After sunset, the thunderstorms will lose some strength, but will continue across Delmarva with heavy rain and the potential for isolated flooding. The cold front will cross the region early Wednesday morning, with dry and sunny conditions returning to the area. Humidity will begin to drop later in the afternoon on Wednesday which will set the stage for cooler and more comfortable nights heading into Labor Day weekend.
