Police reminding parents to not put confidential information in back-to-school pictures
DELMARVA- With summer coming to a close and kids starting to go back to school, police agencies have a message for parents.
They’re warning people to be careful about what they post for the first day of school pictures. Worcester County Sheriff Matt Crisafulli said often times parents are putting characteristics like a child’s name, age, and school in the picture. Giving out this information can make children potentially vulnerable to predators.
Sheriff Crisafulli said while some schools have deputies to ensure the safety of children, support from parents can also help keep a safe learning environment.
“We just kinda wanna ask parents to help out on their end to be a part of the solution in adding a component of safety for our children by just kind of minimizing some of things that they are placing on social media; that kind of hardens the target as we like to call it and it adds that layer of protection,” Sheriff Crisafulli said.
Sheriff Crisafulli also recommends that parents not have children wearing items with their names on it.
