“It’s a great opportunity to continue the tradition”: Historic Washington Inn and Tavern up for sale in Princess Anne

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- The iconic Washington Inn and Tavern in Princess Anne is now up for sale.

The historic building, located downtown, has been open for over 275 years offering meals, drinks, and rooms to those walking through their doors.

The Washington Inn is currently run by the Town. Through the town’s partnership with private investors and the State of Maryland, they were able to access grant funding for revitalization of the building. But now, based on agreements made in the past with the town we’re told they are required to sell the inn by 2023; in the meantime they hope to find the perfect buyer.

“It’s a great opportunity to continue the tradition of offering rooms and drinks and delicious food and all of that,” Carrie Samis, Main St. Princess Anne Manager, said. “And, we certainly need that in our town; we have a couple of great restaurants but we need good restaurants, we need good places, for local folks to eat, and for travelers, and for tourists to eat.”

The current operator will keep the Washington Inn open until this upcoming January.

We’re told the business has helped bring economic growth and development to the area.

“We are grateful for how far it’s come and we are grateful for kind of this long standing tradition for this anchor institution in our community, but we are very excited about the future and whats to come,” Samis said.
