1600 lbs. of White Marlin Open fish gets donated to the Maryland Food Bank

MARYLAND– Many families across the state were able to benefit from the White Marlin Open that just wrapped up this past week in Ocean City.

While it is not a requirement, anglers had the option to donate the fish they caught to the Maryland Food Bank. This year we’re told they donated over 1600 pounds of fish and that will provide about 1,000 meals to households here on the Eastern Shore.

“Maryland Food Bank on the Eastern Shore services about 200 feeding distribution partners across the 8 counties, all of which that product is able to stay local and service all of those entities so that our families have beautiful fish for dinner on the table,” Jennifer Small, VP Partner Logistics and Programs with the MD Food Bank, said.

“It’s pretty exciting they are looking forward to it, the community is looking forward to it, but this whole thing is a great team effort,” Butch Langenfelder, Food Sourcing Manager for the MD Food Bank, said.

We’re told usually they average 2200 pounds a year donated from the tournament. While this year’s amount was a little lighter, they received blue fin, yellow fin, and bigeye tuna.
