UPDATE: Pedestrian dies following crash in Worcester Co.

3:30 p.m. UPDATE: Maryland State Police say 33-year-old Daniel Hicken has died from injuries sustained in this crash.

Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation and consultation with the Worcester County State’s Attorney.

BERLIN, Md. – Police are investigating a crash that sent a pedestrian to the hospital Wednesday evening in Worcester County.

Shortly after 8 p.m., troopers responded to westbound Route 50 on the Harry Kelley Bridge for a report of a single vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. Preliminary investigation revealed that a pedestrian, identified as 33-year-old Daniel Hicken, was trying to cross both the westbound and eastbound lanes of Route 50 from the westbound pedestrian walkway. While crossing the road, Hicken was hit by a 1997 Chevrolet truck, driven by 19-year-old Anthony Capriotti Jr.

Hicken was taken by Delaware State Police aviation to Christiana Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Capriotti Jr. was not injured.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending. All lanes of the Harry Kelley Bridge were closed for roughly four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
