Va. community college bomb threat under investigation
MELFA, Va. – The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a bomb threat at a local community college.
We’re told the report came in at around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday regarding a potential explosive device on the second floor of the Eastern Shore Community College. When deputies arrived on scene they immediately began evacuating the building until the threat could be assessed. K-9s from the Norfolk Police Department were requested to respond and searched the building thoroughly.
No explosive device was found, and the threat was determined to be a hoax.
Officials say multiple community colleges and universities received similar threats across the Tidewater region on Tuesday and throughout the U.S. in the past week.
Police are continuing to investigate this incident and ask anyone that may have information to contact the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office at 757-787-1131.
