SchoLARS 4 STEM Back-to-School event

47ABC — In just a few weeks, SchoLARS 4 STEM will be hosting a back-to-school event for students K-12. With a focus on preparing kids, while getting them interested in the STEM field.

The STEM-inspired, community-focused event will have STEM booths, games, activities, and technical demonstrations. STEM industries like NASA and Virginia Space Flight Academy will be there as well as local colleges and universities. To truly immerse students and give them some hands-on experience.

We spoke with a student and the event organizer  to talk about their interest in stem and what people can expect for the event.

“With the robots, it’s like nice to see that you actually build something that works,” says student Gerry Hovatter.

“So we want to do it in a fun and subtle way and so what better way to have a back-to-school event where we’re giving them back-to-school supplies and we’re immersing them into what they have to offer by way of STEM on the eastern shore,” says Executive Director Nicole Turner.

The event will be held at Salisbury University on Wayne Street Fields on Saturday, August 20th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Registration opens Friday, July 28th at 6 a.m., and the first 100 students who register will receive free back-to-school supplies including a book bag.
