Deadline coming up to file and pay state personal income taxes
MARYLAND- If you haven’t done so yet, Marylanders have one week left to file and pay state personal income taxes for year 2021.
Earlier this year, Comptroller Peter Franchot extended the individual income tax filing and payment due date to July 15. Also, he extended the deadline for first and second quarter personal estimated tax payments. With the time trickling down, a local accountant said if you don’t file and pay these taxes by July 15th here’s what can happen next:
“Starting July 16th, let’s say you owe money from 2021 or you decided that you don’t have the money to pay your first and second quarter estimates penalties will start, penalties and interest will start accruing July 16 until you get those paid,” Mark Welsh, CPA, partner With UHY LLP, said.
Welsh advises you to file and pay electronically as it can be a more efficient way to submit a tax return and you could experience less problems receiving your state refund.
