Adopt-A-Highway service project honors Snow Hill community pillar

SNOW HILL, Md. – Family, community members, and city officials gathered for a Adopt-A-Highway service project honoring the legacy of Fannie Birckhead.

The day included a 2-mile clean up in an effort to keep the area clean, as the day’s namesake was passionate about service and giving back.

There was also an overwhelming turnout, which we’re told is the result of Birckhead making quite the impact in the community.

She served on the town’s council and briefly as interim mayor.

She passed away back in February, but family members tell 47ABC that it’s events like Saturday’s that keep her legacy and memory alive. “All during her life, she was always a trailblazer and doing the best at anything she did,” Daughter Janeen Birckhead said.

“It is really heart felt that this many people would turnout today on their beautiful Saturday to pickup trash in Worcester County. It’s a lovely 2-mile walk out and I hope as they’re walking out they’ll think about what this means to her and their own community to keep it beautiful.”

Following the cleanup, the day ended with a cookout.

The family tells us they’re thankful for the community turning out the way they did to show support.
