Wicomico County Public Schools announce new Superintendent of Schools

WICOMICO Co., Md – The Wicomico County Board of Education has officially announced Dr. Micah C. Stauffer as the new Superintendent of Schools.

Dr. Stauffer is a native to the area and currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent and Chief of Finance and Operations for Wicomico County Public Schools.

He tells 47ABC he is very excited and honored to be appointed to this new role. Dr.Stauffer says he plans to focus on expanding early childhood education,  expanding early childhood education and college and career readiness for all of our students, ensuring that resources that are available are equitably distributed among students, and ensuring that the school district has a high performing workforce. But even with these plans in mind, he says we need to work together as a community to make it happen.

“I think it’s important that in Wicomico that we pull together as one team because that’s what’s going to get us to the point where we need to; as we take each of those daily steps towards the goals that we all want to see become a reality for our students is going to be done through teamwork,” Dr. Stauffer said.

Current Superintendent of Schools Dr. Donna Hanlin is set to retire later this month.

Stauffer will take over the role beginning July 1st. He says Dr. Hanlin has created a strong foundation for the school district and thinks she is insightful and thoughtfulness, things he thinks he can carry on in his new role.
