Pandemic relief funding available for Md. seafood processors, dealers

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Maryland Department of Agriculture is now accepting applications for payments to eligible seafood processors and wholesale dealers.

We’re told this funding is being provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Seaford Processors Pandemic Response and Safety Block Grant Program, and has been developed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Owners of seafood processing facilities and processing vessels, including at-sea processors or dealers are eligible to apply. Each owner of a processing facility or vessel may apply separately for funding. Expenses must have been incurred between January 27, 2020, and December 31, 2021, and fall into the following categories:

  • Workplace safety measures
  • Market pivots
  • Retrofitting facilities
  • Transportation and medical services

Funds for the program are limited to $220,000, and applicants will receive payments after review by MDA. The deadline to apply is July 31st.
