MSP Aviation Command troop celebrates 45th anniversary
OCEAN CITY, Md.- The Ocean City Fire Department hosted a celebration this afternoon in honor of a milestone for Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 4.
It’s been 45 years since the the troop command’s first medevac and Friday afternoon was a celebration of the work done and how far they’ve come.
The free, family fun event included an aircraft on display, police and fire trucks to explore, and many live demonstrations.
We’re told the biggest part of the day was community members learning more about the command’s multi-mission platform, meaning they do it all from investigating traffic accidents to search and rescue missions.
“I’ve been doing this job for 23 years and I’m never not excited. All of our units are an asset in one way or another whether it’s the sheriff’s office, dive team, k-9, or fire marshals. They all have their own specialties and it’s great to see them all here together,” Corporal Gregory Melvin said.
Corporal Melvin also tells 47ABC many community members don’t know that the services they provide are completely free.
