Maryland Governor Larry Hogan reacts to high gas prices
MARYLAND– With skyrocketing gas prices, people’s wallets are hurting. Governor Larry Hogan says this is frustrating to see.
He says recently Maryland legislators temporarily suspended the gas tax. While Governor Hogan said the suspension wasn’t long enough, it saved Marylanders’ nearly $120 million dollars. The Governor’s office has also requested that the Biden administration and Congress cut the federal gas tax, but that proved unsuccessful.
“There aren’t too many steps that I can personally take right now, but I understand how completely difficult it is for people that are trying to fill up their tanks and those prices keep going up,” Governor Hogan said. “So, we are going to keep looking at how to solve the worldwide oil shortage problem.”
Governor Hogan said he also asked the Comptroller and legislature to extend the gas tax suspension. A special session would’ve needed to happen to discuss that, but the Governor said the Speaker of the House and the Senate President didn’t make it happen.
