Rusty Rudder putting on event to raise money for Dewey Beach fire victims

DEWEY BEACH, Del.- The community is coming together to honor Dewey Beach residents who lost everything in a fire.

The devastating incident happened in April with three homes catching fire. Now, the local restaurant, Rusty Rudder is stepping up to fundraise for victims of the fire. They will put on an event tomorrow with live music. The owner is encouraging neighbors to come out to help the victims get back on their feet.

“Restarting your life after a big fire is like everything else, it takes time so we thought if we put some money into their hands, maybe they will get themselves a car, maybe they will get themselves some clothing,” Alex Pires, owner of Highway One companies, said.

The event is from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m at Rusty Rudder. They are asking for a donation of $20 dollars and 100% of the proceeds will go to the victims.

They will also be honoring the police officer who helped the victims the day of the fire.
