LEWES, Del. – A 74-year-old Millsboro man has died from injuries he sustained in a crash late last week.
At around 1:45 p.m. Thursday, police say the victim was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Captiva eastbound on Lewes-Georgetown Highway, approaching three vehicles that were slowing down for traffic ahead. Directly in front of the Captiva was a 2014 Subaru Forester being driven by a 66-year-old Lewes man. The Subaru reportedly slowed down for traffic, however, the Captiva did not slow down and hit the back of the Forester. The impact of that collision then pushed the front of the Forester into the back number of a 2011 GMC Sierra, driven by a 54-year-old Georgetown man. The Sierra then hit the back bumper of a 2012 Ford F-150, driven by a 40-year-old Magnolia man. All vehicles then came to rest in the middle of the eastbound travel lane and along the eastbound shoulder of Lewes-Georgetown Highway.
All occupants of the vehicles were properly restrained. The driver and passenger of the GMC Sierra suffered minor injuries but were not taken to the hospital. The driver of the Captiva was taken to an area hospital for life-threatening injuries, where he died from his injuries on Saturday. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.
Troopers are continuing to investigate this crash and are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Master Corporal K. Argo at 302-703-3264 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
