Non-profit gets $10K to help roll skate park into Berlin

BERLIN, Md.- “We Heart Berlin” is now 10,000 steps closer to bringing a bike and skate park to the town.

The Berlin non-profit just received a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore and that money will go towards phase one of the bike and skate park. Tony Weeg, president of the group, said the first stage will cost around $60,000, so that grant they just received will go a long way. But even with that said, we’re told funding there’s still more work to be done.

“We are at the point where we need the town to decide sort of where we are going to put it, that’s a crucial part,” Weeg said. “We can raise all the dollars in the world, but if the town doesn’t give the space to make it well the dollars wont be able to go anywhere.”

The grant money will specifically go towards site work, storm water consideration, plan development, and more.

Weeg said many people have lent a helping hand so far and he’s grateful for the support. He is looking to raise more money for the project, so if you’re able to donate visit WeHeartBerlin.org.
