Local private attorney announces candidacy for Wicomico County State Attorney
WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – 47 ABC caught up with one private attorney who’s throwing his hat in the ring for the Wicomico County State’s Attorney seat.
Tuesday evening, James Lee Britt hosted a campaign launch event in Downtown Salisbury. Britt has been a resident of the Eastern Shore for 14 years, serving as a circuit clerk for Wicomico County for 10 years.
Voters got to hear about Britt’s goals if elected, which he says crime prevention and restoring trust between the Attorney’s Office and law enforcement are top priorities. He also tells 47 ABC that the office has suffered a 125% turnover rate. After serving a decade in the office himself, he feels it’s his duty to get things under control.
“When you have that many people, dedicated public servants who just choose to go else where it’s symbolic of a problem. A problem at the top and with leadership,” Britt said. “I’m running to restore leadership. To restore some stability to that office so that officers know who it is they can call when they have questions and to provide transparency.”
Britt is running as a Republican against current incumbent Jamie Dykes, who is also a Republican.
The primary election is set for July 19th.
