Legislation making the process easier for businesses to get H-2B workers
MARYLAND- In an effort to make the process of getting H-2B visa workers smoother, U.S. Representative Andy Harris is hoping to get legislation passed.
The bill is called Returning Worker Exemption Act. Congressman Harris who is a co-sponsor of the legislation said this would be a permanent solution to the chronic H-2B visa issues, including delays, which impacts seasonal businesses.
It will also exempt workers who previously held an H-2B visa in one of the 3 fiscal years from counting against the annual temporary foreign worker quota.
“If a worker comes back, they came here, they stayed a few months, they went back home, they’re going to come back to that same business,” Rep. Harris said.”Then they won’t count towards the quota and they can be processed more expeditiously.”
If passed, it wouldn’t ignore the fact employers have to still look for American workers to fill those vacant positions first.
