Getting to know Maryland’s Attorney General candidates

Post Assembly Forum

SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University held a forum Monday evening with the candidates running for Maryland’s Attorney General.

The candidates include Katie O’Malley, a Baltimore City District Court Judge; Jim Shalleck, the former president of Montgomery County Elections; and Anthony Brown, Maryland’s District four Congressional Representative.

O’Malley believes her 30 years of courtroom experience makes her perfect for the position and she wants to use her expertise to lower crime rates in Maryland.

Candidate Shalleck, running for the Republican nomination also wants to reduce crime. With his background as a prosecutor and time spent working in the Defense Attorney’s office Shalleck says he’s the man for the job.

If he were to win the seat, Shalleck wants to install satellite offices to combat consumer fraud, as well as create a crime task force.

Finally, Anthony Brown’s focus is on being an “agent of change” mentioning the need for more laws and policies that address climate change and environmental justice, as well as investments in education for the states’ K-12 public education and HBCUs’.

Brown is optimistic that his 30 years of courtroom experience along with his time in Congress will make him an ideal candidate.

Brown went on to say “no laws get passed in Maryland without the input and advice of the Attorney General”, hammering home the importance of the election, which will be held on November 8th.
