Superintendent Dr. Donna Hanlin presents her last 2022 State of the Schools

MARYLAND– Wicomico County Public School gave their 2022 State of the Schools Luncheon on Tuesday.

This annual event was held at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center. It was the final State of the Schools presentation for Superintendent Dr. Donna Hanlin, who is retiring after 44 years in education. She highlighted efforts across the school district and updated attendees on where the district stands right now when it comes to hitting goals.

“The impacts of COVID are definitely real, I think that’s the part that we need to acknowledge,” Dr. Rick Briggs, Chief Academic Officer, said. “And, so we did see our kindergarten readiness scores take a drop, we did see our graduation rates take a slight drop; so, we have reestablished the base line scores that we are now going to be able to work to improve in the coming years.”

Dr. Hanlin’s last words were the importance of community members picking wisely who their board of education leaders are, and making sure they support the Superintendent.
