Former city councilwoman files candidacy for Wico. County Council District 1 seat

SALISBURY, Md. – A former Salisbury City Councilwoman is looking throw her hat back into the local politics ring.

Shanie Shields has announced her candidacy for the Wicomico County Council District 1 seat. Shields is a Salisbury native who served on the City Council for three terms. Back in 2018, she lost the race for the County Council District 1 seat to incumbent Ernie Davis.

She tells 47 ABC her platform is focused on crime prevention, affordable housing, and providing more resources to the elderly population. She adds that there should be diversity in local politics and if given a seat at the table she’ll bring just that.

“I believe everybody has issues that we may agree on but I also know that we aren’t always going to agree, even in the black community we don’t always agree. But I think we need to work together for the community,” Shields said.

“We have to work for the community. If you really want to serve your community, be able to work for the whole community and not just focus on your district.”

The primary election early voting starts on July 7th at the Civic Center and First Baptist Church.
