DSP looking for high schoolers to join their Trooper Youth Week, giving them training experience

DELAWARE– Delaware State Police are looking for high school students to join them for a week-long live-in academy.

DSP and the American Legion Department of Delaware will host their Trooper Youth Week in June at a training academy in Dover. The program is designed to give sophomores, juniors, and seniors a look at what law enforcement training looks like for DSP. They will go through physical training and classroom instruction.

DSP told 47ABC that this program could help with recruitment and answer frequently asked questions they get.

“What is it like in the police academy, what exactly are you guys learning, what are you subject to you know for a long long time police departments kind of had a closed door policy with that, but with DSP we are trying to incorporate a more open door policy,” Lenny DeMalto, a Senior Corporal with DSP Public Information Office, said.

If you are a Delaware high school senior, junior, or sophomore you need to complete and application by May 20 by 4:00 p.m. You can download the application on the DSP website or contact your school Resource Officer.
